Obligations

Contract renewal coming up? Compliance review due next quarter? Obligations let you attach tracked deadlines directly to documents in Locker, assign an owner, and get reminded before the date passes, so nothing slips through the cracks.

How Obligations Work

An obligation is a deadline tied to a specific document. When you create one, you give it a title, a due date, and an owner, the person responsible for acting on it. As the deadline approaches, Locker sends the owner automatic reminders.

The full workflow looks like this:

  1. Store a document in Locker. See Uploading Documents.
  2. Add an obligation from the document's detail view, a renewal date, a compliance review, a payment deadline.
  3. Assign an owner and due date. The owner is responsible for completing the obligation before it's due.
  4. Track everything from Locker → Obligations, one view of all upcoming and overdue obligations across your entire document library.
Manual obligation create/edit is planned

The Obligations dashboard is available today as a read-only view. Manual create, edit, and complete actions are not yet available — neither in the UI nor via a dedicated API. The only supported create path today is AI obligation extraction on an indexed contract; see Creating Obligations.

Access

The Obligations section is available on plans that include it. If Obligations is not visible in your sidebar, contact your account team.

Troubleshooting

The Obligations section isn't visible in my sidebar. The Obligations section requires a plan that includes it. If Locker → Obligations doesn't appear in your sidebar, contact your account team to enable it. The Obligations tab on individual document detail pages also requires this feature.

I don't see the Obligations tab on a document. The Obligations tab on the document detail page requires a plan that includes the Obligations feature. If the tab isn't visible, confirm the feature is enabled for your organization by contacting your account team.

I can't create or edit an obligation from the UI. The Obligations dashboard is read-only today. The only supported way to create obligation records is via AI obligation extraction, which scans an indexed contract and saves the extracted obligations linked to that document. Manual create, edit, and complete actions via API are on the roadmap. See Creating Obligations.

An obligation isn't showing on the Obligations dashboard.

  • The obligation may be linked to a document you don't have access to, ask your admin to verify.
  • Check the dashboard filter. Completed and cancelled obligations are hidden by default, switch to All statuses to see them.
  • If the obligation was created from extraction, confirm the source document is in your organization and has finished AI indexing.
